This stone is hard and extremely fine, capable of finishing razors with ease. While it is quite firm, it has better than average feedback for stones this refined. It can also be used on carpentry tools and knives. It will leave a bright silver and detailed polish on san mai. This is a very capable finishing stones in all regards. Both the karasu and asagi sides are usable!
Aesthetics & Other Notes
This stone displays a pale yellow / straw color base. The majority of the stone shows karasu patterning throughout along side that base coloring. The bottom several millimeters is an extremely dense karas pattern however. Quite unique and beautiful!
Nakayama (中山)
This Eastern mine is famous for its finishing stones, awasedo. Stone with kiita coloring from multiple strata are particularly prized by carpenters and sharpeners alike. Compared to stones of similar hardness and fineness from other mines, Nakayama stones are known for having a more pleasant sharpening feeling. All authetntic stones bearing the famous Maruka stamp are from Nakayama.
