Description
Shiki uchigumori are tenjou suita from Maruoyama. While not as well known as their counterparts from Ohira or even Mizukihara, these stones can perform very similarly. This is a superlative example of this stone type, being exceptionally clean and very forgiving in both hardness and grain size. The stone readily self slurries and even with firm pressure does not scratch the blade.
The finish is a deep matte kasumi with great contrast and terrific iridescent coloration on the steel. Compared to a middle of the road Ohira uchigumori, this stone is faster and cleaner, though it won't refine to quite the same level.
This stone is suitable for polishing and sharpening knives. Due to its softness it is less suitable for tools and razors. This stone works well with both san mai and honyaki knives. The stone is lightly sealed with clear lacquer.
